Solar Eclipse 21 August 2017

The Science Geek

As nearly all of my readers, particular those who live in the US, will know, there will be a solar eclipse on 21 August. For lucky viewers in a narrow band of territory running West to East across the US, it will be visible as a total eclipse – when the Moon completely obscures the Sun and it suddenly goes dark for a short period of time.

Image from NASA

Although there is, on average, a total eclipse somewhere on Earth every 18 months, for each eclipse the region of on the world where a total eclipse can be seen is relatively small. Unless you are a so-called eclipse chaser – people who travel long distance to see solar eclipses, you will probably only get a change to see a total eclipse within 1000 km of where you live once or twice in your lifetime.  The last time that one has…

The Lunar Eclipse–A Look Within.

“Sandwiched in between two new moons in Leo,” as Astrologer Pam Gregory likes to say, is this partial Lunar Eclipse occurring in the Full Moon of Aquarius at 1:10 PM CST  in the United States on August 7, 2017.

As with all Full Moons, we are asked to release what doesn’t work for us; what doesn’t serve us. Additionally, this Full Moon falls on the South Node. The South Node represents our past. While this is familiar and comfortable, growth occurs by moving forward into the unknown–the unfamiliar.

Not only are we asked to release the past, we’re encouraged to move toward the light, the Sun, and our life force in Leo. The North Node, our path to enlightenment, is also in Leo. Additionally, Mars conjunct the Leo Sun pushes us to take action.

In light of this, I looked to Tarot to illuminate my path forward. What triggers could Tarot reveal about release? What is healing from the past? In what direction should I go?

The 8 of Wands in Reverse shows me what I’m releasing with this lunar eclipse.   With this in reverse, I’m releasing chaos in my life. The past has been one schock to the system after another. Is this the Aquarian/Uranian energy I’m to move away from? Further, this full moon in the South Node of Aquarius mirrors the South Node in my natal chart–a strong message to me that I’m moving away from this cycle into the light of Leo; heart energy.

What is healing? I drew the King of Swords in Reverse. For me, this card in reverse brings to mind not speaking  your truth, being shut down, not being heard, keeping quiet. I see harnessing the  power of Leo to move forward more as a leader. I’m thinking it might be my time to shine. Leo, also my North Node as well as the North Node for this lunar eclipse is my path forward. This falls in my 3rd House of Communication. It’s time to speak up and communicate my thoughts and beliefs of my 9th House in Aquarius as the King of Swords (Air/Communication) would do.

What direction am I to go? How do I best utilize this eclipse energy to move forward?  The Hermit echoes the message of the eclipse to go within.  The answers are internal.

The Hermit is about looking within to find your own light; your own way. The Hermit has found the confidence to let his authentic self shine. He lights his own path.

I’m also mindfuld of how the Hermit looks to the other cards,  illuminating what is releasing and healing for me.

Look to the North Node of Leo in your chart. Where are you led to shine?

Can You Feel The Love? Full Moon Lunar Eclipse ~ August 7th, 2017

August 7, 2017 = 8+7+2+1+7=9 Endings/Release

The universe is clearly orchestrating change. The recent New Moon in Leo on July 23rd initiated the change by giving us the courage of the lion to stand up and be seen. This was Leo’s first call to be courageous and to step into our authentic self. Change takes courage. Leo helps move us toward our heart’s desires.

Now comes the Full Moon Partial Lunar Eclipse on August 7th in Aquarius. The energy of eclipses is long-lasting. Changes we make now will have a lingering impact. The Full Moon of Aquarius asks us to release what isn’t working for the collective.

The Sun shines in Leo and wants to be seen. It’s creative. It’s love. It’s heart. Combine this with Aquarian humanitarian energy and we’re called to act in love for the collective. We’re asked to move forward in not thinking just of our selves, but of all of mankind and the collective soul.

Aquarian Air energy fuels the Fire energy of Leo. A wondrous combination for positive change. Mars is right there with the Sun and very comfortable in Leo. Mars stokes the fire, begging us to take action. Look to where Leo and Aquarius fall in your chart to best see where you can make positive change.

Maybe your 1st and 7th houses of self and relationships are activated. Where can you make changes in your relationships? What’s best for the group? Or maybe it activates your 3rd and 9th houses and it’s about communicating a message to the collective. Wherever the area of life, Leo is giving you the courage to be heard.

On August 21st, we experience the Great American Eclipse in the United States with yet a second New Moon in Leo and more long-lasting eclipse energy. The Lion calls again.

Can you feel the love tonight?
The peace the evening brings
The world, for once, in perfect harmony
With all its living things

~  Elton John, The Lion King

Libra Full Pink Moon April 11, 2017

Master Number 11

Hans Decoz explains that, “in the case of the 11 (a double 1), it has the traits and personality of the 1 twice, and when added (11 = 1+1 = 2) becomes a 2, thereby combining the most powerful male energy (the 1, Zeus) with the equally potent female energy (the 2, Hera). Considering that the 1 and the 2 are on opposite ends of the spectrum and the sum of their combined attributes pretty much overshadows all other attributes assigned to the numbers 3 through 9 you can perhaps imagine a merging of the strongest, most driven and aggressive warrior, an unstoppable masculine energy, with the supremacy of the most intuitive, feminine, and cunning goddess. And even that does not reveal the true essence of the 11 Master number: The 11 symbolizes the potential to push the limitations of the human experience into the stratosphere of the highest spiritual perception; the link between the mortal and the immortal; between man and spirit; between darkness and light; ignorance and enlightenment. This is the ultimate symbolic power of the 11.”

Keeping in mind the opposing energies of the Male (Aries Sun) and Female (Libra Moon), we already see the duality and challenges with this full moon. The ego in Aries wants to charge ahead and in a reckless way with Uranus by his side acting without thinking, boldly causing havoc; acting without thinking.  This energy is in direct conflict with Libra Moon who just wants peace, who is emotionally driven with the expansive energy of Jupiter. Libra wants balance, and Jupiter is more than happy to give, give and give to keep that false balance.

How Does 11 Fit In?

The Master number 11 wants to push the the human experience into the stratosphere of the highest spiritual perception according to Decoz. The link between mortal and immortal, between man and spirit. The ultimate goal is to bring these two energies into balance.

April 11, 2017 Full Moon in Libra

Above you can see the tension between Aries Sun and Libra Moon. Uranus is right by the Aries’ Sun’s side egging him on to do whatever he wants. He is the “I AM” after all. Uranus is the like the crazy mad scientist who just want to throw things together and try whatever, no matter the consequences. Aries is right in the mix, saying, “Yeah, let’s do it! With Uranus’ rebellious, chaotic behavior and Aries’ forge ahead action, things could get kind of crazy.

Soft Libra Moon, on the other hand, just wants peace. Generous Jupiter is right there with her giving and giving. Whatever it takes to keep things afloat. Poor Ms. Libra might be self sacrificing to the point of not knowing who she is anymore for the sake of the relationship. What she doesn’t realize is that if you’re not in control of where you’re going, the decision will be made for you. It may not be what you want and you ultimately find the scales tipping.

Then we have Pluto in the mix, acting  like a S_____t  stirrer. The more you stir, the more it stinks kind of thing. Pluto is forcing these two to dig deep and face the ugliness, the things we don’t want to talk about that we’ve kept stuffed away. Pluto is forcing us to take a look at the mess to bring these two oppositions to a breakthrough with this full moon.

What Can We Do?

“Journey Into The Hidden Realm” by Barbara Moore

The reading above was done with the intention that the card on the left represent the Aries Sun, the card directly opposing on the right, represents the Libra Moon. Pluto is represented by the card at the top forming a T-Square with the Sun and the Moon. The card below represents the release in Cancer.

The Five of Swords representing the Aries Sun talks about change and disruption as represented by the #5 in numerology. It accurately describes the energy of Aries and Uranus, forging ahead with what they want to do without thinking. It’s all about me and winning. The Five of Swords in traditional decks asks us to take a look about always being right–is it worth it? Is forcing your way, even when you think you are right always the RIGHT thing to do when people get hurt? Notice how the character looks away, focusing on their own intent. This person is not looking toward the Moon. Ironically, the character representing the Moon on the right, looks away from the Sun. Both are going in opposite directions. You can sense the pull of the energies.

The Faery Stallion, #7 representing the Libra Moon corresponds with the Chariot in traditional tarot decks. Seven is a challenge. This ties right in with the tension between the Sun and the Moon. The Chariot also represents direction, being in control or out of control. What does it take to bring balance, to go in the direction you want? You can’t forsake your authentic self and be led. Who knows where you’ll end up. Jupiter amplifying the Libra energy can tend to go off in the direction of giving and giving to the point of no return. The challenge to Libra is to find balance without sacrificing self.

Pluto, represented by the Four of Wands is right in the mix forcing the Sun and the Moon to look at him. When I saw this card, the first thing that came to me was chaotic music. Everyone playing their own tune, nothing in sync, everyone out of key.  No direction. I pictured this Pluto music as loud and chaotic, trying to get the attention of the Sun and Moon to face what they don’t want to face instead of ignoring the problems. The music is so insane it forces you to want it to stop. You have to look at it and face it, to CHANGE it.

The release comes with Temperance # 14 in Cancer. Again 1+4=5, CHANGE. Release is found in Water, our emotions. Blending and mixing to find balance–a middle ground. Temperance brings grounding and wants to modify something to bring about a desired condition. The blending of the Sun and the Moon will actually bring strength to the relationship. Ironically, to temper can actually  mean to adjust a pitch of an instrument to a temperament. So, when this balance is found, the musicians above in the 4 of Wands can find HARMONY. Harmony corresponds with the #4.

Aries New Moon March 27, 2017

Happy New Year!

Astrologically speaking, the new year begins in Aries on March 20th with the Spring Equinox. So, if your New Year’s resolutions fell flat, The Ram helps push us forward with the new moon on the 27th  and take ACTION!

Where can we take action in personal growth? How can Aries assist?

Robert Wang’s “The Jungian Tarot”

  1. How does the energy of Aries assist us?  Aries is the initiator. The 2 of Cups in Reverse asks that we take control of our emotions. Take a look at partnerships or any relationships  that are less than desirable. What relationships are unfulfilling? Where are we lacking emotionally? Aries wants us to do something about it.
  2. How do we do this? The 4 of Wands in Reverse assists us by lighting a fire, forcing us us to take action. The fiery energy of Aries gives us motivation to stand up. If we don’t expend this energy, the fire will internalize and we’ll burn out. Aries demands release; to take action. Mars, Aries ruler, gives us  the strength to power through.
  3. How can I be courageous?  Mars, The God Of War, shows us how to be a leader. The Emperor in Reverse asks us to stand up. Wherever we have remained quiet, Mars wants us to come forward and  speak up; be a leader. This energy enables us to find the courage to stand up for ourselves, for what is right and good.
  4. How can this new moon in Aries help me grow? The Lovers in Reverse wants us to took at the relationship we have with ourselves. How can we have good relationships with others, whether personal or professional or within our families, if we’re not feeling good on the inside. What negative thinking can we release?
  5. How does Aries help us with personal growth? The Wheel of Fortune in Reverse tells us that now is the time to look after ourselves. We’ve expended a lot of energy taking care of others. It’s our time now. Focus on self-care.

It’s interesting to note that all of these cards are in reverse, indicating an overall theme to look within and focus on self; the “I AM” energy of Aries.

Spring Forward!

I’m putting myself out there to show just how much Tarot is helping me understand myself and offer guidance. We really do have everything we need inside. Tarot helps bring that information to the surface. It illuminates the answers that are already inside us.

For the past couple of days, I’ve been struggling with my path–where I’m going, what I’m suppose to be doing.  Intense, and I mean paralyzing thoughts and internal struggles came over me out of nowhere. Yesterday it peaked. I don’t remember feeling this lost in years, if ever.

I looked to Tarot and here’s what I found:

The 6 of Pentacles in Reverse, 7 of Cups and 5 of Wands all describe everything that has been happening with me over the last couple of days.

The 6 of Pentacles in Reverse tells me that before I can begin to be of any use to anyone else or help others I need to be in balance myself. It also tells me that maybe I’ve been putting others before myself. You can even see in the card how the pentacles are not in balance. Self-care is needed; balance.

The 7 of Cups is the intense struggle I was feeling. I felt very overwhelmed in trying to decide what I should do, where I should go–just tons and tons of conflicted feelings. I felt in the dark as to what to do. My situation seemed chaotic and out of reach.

The 5 of Wands in Reverse indicates an internal struggle. My mind was struggling and pulling me back and forth with all these thoughts.

Then I added in guidance from the Oracle. Amazingly, the cards fit in perfectly with my situation and offered wisdom, putting everything in perspective.

pic2.jpgDirectly below the 6 of Pentacles is “To The Sea” This is all about nurturing self. Being in the flow and not worrying about if this is what I’m supposed to be doing or where I’m supposed to be. It’s about riding the wave of opportunity and allowing trust and faith to guide me. The energy progresses from being out of harmony in the 6 of Pentacles in Reverse above, to the challenging energy of 7 in that I need to relax and ride the wave.

Below the 7 of Cups we have “Co-Create” in the protection position. This indicates that I’ve been trying too hard, relying only on myself. I’ve been trying to create all I desire without nurturing. I’ve worked myself into a slump; into feeling overwhelmed (7 of Cups!) I need to ask God/Spirit for inspiration. When I do, things will become clearer. Ideas will flow as soon as I get out of my own way. It’s very comforting to know that I don’t have to figure out everything myself.

“Orphaned” is directly below the 5 of Wands in Reverse. Both cards are 5s. Orphaned describes a sense of loss–an identity crisis. It describes exactly what I was feeling in the 5 of Wands reversed. It’s a feeling of recognizing that you don’t fit in and the need to belong. No man is an island. Orphaned describes a feeling of uncertainty about your place in the world.

The overall message to me is:

  1. First and foremost, I need to think about me. It’s time to think about my needs and self-care instead of putting others first. I’ve done that for too long and things have gotten out of balance.
  2. Lean on God/Spirit to guide me. I don’t have to figure everything out myself. In fact, it doesn’t work that way. No wonder my head has been spinning. The answer is to co-create with God. Ask God/Spirit for guidance. That’s when things will start to really take off.
  3. The internal struggle–the core of the problem, has been a deep rooted feeling about not fitting in; feeling different. It’s ok, I’ll find my place with others of like mind and spirit. Not everyone may understand me, but it’s ok.

I share this to show the power of Tarot toward self-actualization and empowering us with guidance.  We all have the wisdom inside but sometimes need help finding it.

Tarot cards are from the Smith-Waite deck.

Oracles cards are from Colette Baron-Reid’s, “Wisdom of The Oracle.”

Full Moon in Virgo March 12, 2017

Virgo is practical and self-reliant.

Purify and transform the pain.

The full moon in Virgo challenges us to look at what’s messy in our lives. Virgo loves organization and wants to clean things up. What can we clear away and how can the present Virgo energy help us do that? What are we making room for? Virgo asks, “What will we leave behind that really matters, that is useful?”

full show of cards

  1. What Clutters Our Slate? 10 OF SWORDS. This card, located in the middle of the top row, shows us that the pain we’ve been holding on to needs to go. Sometimes we cling to pain even when logically we know we should live in the present, but the pain has been around for so long it’s become familiar. This Full Moon in Virgo says it’s time to let it go. Whether we feel wronged, stabbed in the back, rejected–whatever the pain, the ugliness of it clutters our life and we need to let it go.
  2. What Shadow Issue Do We Need To Release? JUSTICE. This card is located directly below the 10 of Swords. Haven’t we suffered enough? Has holding on to the pain and dwelling on paybacks or revenge served to justify our pain?  Justice is karmic in that what goes around, comes around. We don’t have to be jury or judge. Holding on to getting “Justice” for our pain needs to be released. Dwelling on it only holds us back and keeps us stuck in the pain.
  3. How Do We Clean The Slate? EIGHT OF PENTACLES. This card, located in the upper left corner is how we clean the slate. We forge ahead and through hard work, determination, blood, sweat and tears, we transform the pain into something new. Hard work and determination purifies the soul.  The energy of Virgo reminds us that through the fire, we receive purification.
  4. What Are We Making Room For? 9 OF CUPS. This card, located on the upper right corner, is wish fulfillment. Blessings. Through releasing our pain and forging ahead, we are making room for happiness, peace, blessings and tranquility. If we had remained stuck in our pain, we wouldn’t be able to receive the blessings.
  5. How Will this Make Us More Independent? 4 OF PENTACLES.  Located directly below the 9 of Cups, we learn that we can take care of ourself. The blessings of the cups card has shown us that no matter what is thrown at us, we can stand on our own feet. We’re solid and have a strong foundation. We can be relied upon. We have a sense of our own value. Virgo shows us self-reliance which brings independence.
  6. What Legacy Will We Leave Behind? 3 OF PENTACLES. Located in the lower left hand corner, directly below the 8 of Pentacles is the 3 of Pentacles. This card shows us that through our determination and hard work, releasing the pain and anger, we have the courage to move ahead and develop our own worth, our own life. We find joy and creativity in who we are and what we do. We’ve made our own way and left the legacy of independence, of determination and perseverance; the legacy of forging ahead through pain and coming out on the other side, self reliant.
